The SNES and it's influence on the Gaming Industry
When The Super Nintendo Entertainment System appeared in the 90’s it was a shock for people who played Nintendo. Of course, the classic Nintendo System was a boom itself, but when the SNES appeared on the market, those who were fans of Nintendo were in the heaven of video games. Turbo Grafix 16 and Sega Genesis were already on the market and SNES arrived late enough but for people who knew what quality means, SNES was the dessert that worth waiting for. Even nowadays, some people play SNES and own all the three generations.

The best part of the Super Nintendo was the controller. This had twice as much buttons as other controllers and as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System controller, but it also had twin shoulder buttons. This controller was a model for the next ones that followed, and no doubt it represented the step to the future.

The fact that the Super Nintendo controller had other design, gave new choices to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System that could not have been reachable if it wouldn’t have been for the controller’s design. The most popular console game, Street Fighter II was strongly influenced by the controller. Even if it was a Super Nintendo Entertainment System game made, he would have not had the same popularity on a different controller. Not only that each button was needed to play the game but it also had a comfortable design for the player. Sega was late in making such a controller and it didn’t even had the shoulder buttons, which really made the difference.

If you take a look to the nowadays controllers you will see that there is not so much differences between the old ones and the new ones. The new controllers also have trigger buttons but the design is pretty much the same. The Microsoft Xbox controller has even kept the color of the buttons that Super Nintendo Entertainment System controllers had. In the future, Nintendo will probably influence the controllers design again.
